Kigali City Tour & Memorial Center,

Walking the streets of Kigali today, it is hard to imagine the 100 days of madness in which an estimated one million Tutsis and moderate Hutus were systematically butchered by their rival tribe mates in one of the most savage genocides in history. This center has been built near the mass graves of 250,000 of those who perished and attempts to explain the event in context - from the divisive colonial experience in Rwanda and the heinous crimes that took place in 1994 to the aftermath of the genocide. The tour concludes with a section about other massacres of global significance. The Genocide Memorial is a place of commemoration for the 250,000 victims buried in mass graves here and an important remembrance of the unfathomable brutality of the 1994 genocide. The exhibit is an intensely emotional experiences but also an educational one, where you will learn about the darkest hour in Rwanda’s recent history.

At Nyamata church south of Kigali also serves as homage to those who perished as well as those who have endured tragedy in the family. The excavated clothing and skeletal remains of the deceased as well as personal stories of survivors are on display.

We shall then visit the kandt museum of natural history were you will learn about the co-existence of people & their environment in the old colonial buildings
